i want to learn to play but i know i will quit on it if its boring. so will somebody with experience tell me if "learning" to play the piano is boring?
Once you find what you enjoy playing it becomes: ecstasy. I practice all the time. Not because I have to but because I love it! Expressing yourself. That’s what it’s all about.
It is in no way boring, in fact it’s my number one hobby!
In some ways I strongly disagree with the person above me. Maybe you’ve never taken an exam in your life but I can assure you doing Music Theory and Piano exams will improve your technique and understanding to be honest rather than not.
I used to like pop songs but then my teacher brought me into a different world: Classical. It’s truly amazing. Good luck anyway!
Every person who plays the piano is learning. It’s not simply a case of knowing how to play; not like riding a bike. Even concert pianists still learn new things, even if these things are incredibly advanced and beyond 99% of us.
Sometimes learning the piano is a slog. You will need to repeat a passage or a concept endlessly in order to get it, then will find you’ve completely forgotten it the next day. The offset of this are the times when you play really well, when you can sit down and simply play.
If you are not willing to put in the work then there’s not a lot of point in learning; in fact one of the great things about playing is putting in hours of practice and seeing, or rather hearing, the results of your practice.

I’ve been playing the piano for almost 9 years so you can say that I’m quite experienced. At first it will seem quite interesting and stuff and after it gets harder and harder you can easily get frustrated. But don’t give up too quickly, if you get a good tutor that can help you then you won’t feel so troubled.
The best part is that when you are quite fluent at it, you can start playing all these fun pop songs and stuff – that’s the best part for me.
TIP – Don’t start to memorize the short and easy songs or else you WILL struggle a lot later on.
PS – I’ve never taken a piano exam in my life – and you don’t have to take any to be good pianist.

There are wishers and doers. Some wish they could play and some actually do put in the time and effort to learn.

some people don’t have the patience to practice until you’re actually good but that’s true for all instruments so, if youre not immediately taken with it, just stick with it, and it will be so rewarding. I’ve been playing since i was 4, and yes it was frustrating to be told to practice but i never found it boring. now i’m 17 and now really serious about it and it’s tough, but really rewarding. you can hear yourself getting better and better, playing harder and phenomenol pieces. So no, it’s not boring.
