Am I too old to Start learning to play the piano?

I’m 14 and I really want to play the piano really bad. I haven’t had a chance to try when i was younger because my parents were new to the United States and they didn’t speak much english. But now i’m older and i know what music stores give lessons and stuff. So i was wondering if I’m at an okay age level to start learning to play the piano. and also is playing a piano and winning a competition good on college applications?

I’m a professional pianist , 32 years old , I started playing the piano only by my own at 16 , till the age of 22 , when I started professional studies with several teachers. I discovered then that I’ve been going through some wrong techniques , and so I concentrated with all my efforts for rectifying all these negative techniques , until finally after reaching the age of 25, I’m able to play the different solo pieces and concertos professionally.
By this , of course you are still at a young age to start learning the piano , PROVIDED THAT you must learn with an excellent teacher for starting with the right techniques step by step , avoiding wasting your time playing things improperly.

Good luck

No. Definitely not. I’m 13 and I’m starting to learn too. You’ll learn faster than if you were younger. So it’s good to start at this age :]

You definitely can start learning. You’re actually at a great age. As for the college applications, it depends on the competition. But actually playing should look good, as any extra-curricular activity does, because it looks like you don’t just sit around and watch T.V all day.

No, you are not too old to learn how to play piano. I started learning how to play piano when I was 13 years old, and have played for 8 years so far.

I’ve had students in their 30s go on to become concert pianists. So 14 is plenty young.

Playing classical piano is an excellent thing to put on college applications. 100% of my students get accepted to the college of their first choice. Winning a competition is icing on the cake.

you’re not to old to start and learn to play piano, you’ll just have to double the hours in practicing so you’ll be able to cope with the level or grade for your age, i strted playing piano when i was 7 years old and i stopped i continued again 16 i just doubled the time for practicing and it has good results
