Call the music stores and ask if they give lessons or can recommend someone who can. Also try your local school or college… often the music teachers moonlight and teach after school and evenings.

Also my parents are not gonna pay for lesson and I don’t have money to pay. I used to take lesson 5yrs ago, but I quit. I am slow at reading bass cleft and even playing two hands challenges me. Would learning guitar be a better choice?

If you can’t pay for lessons (and don’t know any qualified teachers), then you’re not going to have much luck – although teaching yourself is an option, you’ll develop bad habits which may be pointed out in the future, when it’s too late to rectify them.

In any case, the period of time it takes to learn to sing and play piano at the same time is dependent on how fast you can pick things up, and how good you are at multitasking. Practise makes perfect, and this isn’t something you’ll be able to do overnight.

Also, it’s never too late to take up an instrument.

–> The combinations of string and fret in a guitar make up a note. Since there are six strings and twenty or more frets, the notes are literally "all over the place". In a piano the keys are laid out in one simple manner, no frets, no strings. So the benefit of playing the piano is the notes are easier to map out.

"How can learning the piano help improve my songwriting, and help me become a better musician?"
–> Songs on piano are usually sentimental so it would be useful if you love sentimental songs.

"Can learning the piano help me compose orchestra pieces?"
–> Of course! Learn how to play the classics (Beethoven, Mozart) and take your cue from them.

Sure you can. I learned by teaching myself and didn’t pay so much attention to the book i got, but, depending if you’re a fast learner or not, a book will definetly help you.

Bass is fun if you learn slap. Otherwise, it is pretty monotonous. Don’t get me wrong though – it is very hard to keep the rhythm and keep switching pace at the same time. The bass player holds the band together, along with drums. Keep in mind though, lots of bands need bass players, so that is a fun thing to do. Try doing both. Life’s short. Do everything you can!

Keyboard is a good start. It is much more simple and it is a great way to train your fingers before you move on to to piano.

of course there will be a slight feeling of awkwardness at first once you play the piano. however if you’re really into it , then i have no doubt that you can master the piano within months :) cheers k

Hey guys

My name is Rafe. I am in a band called Trick of Disaster. A few years ago I made a video called learn piano in 3 minutes on a whim, and now it has over 130,000 views and gets over 300 views every day. So because of that, I decided to make a lot videos. The idea here isnt to take someone from moderate to expert, but to take someone from beginner to moderate. I try to keep things as simple as possible, starting at the very beginning. It doesnt matter how inexperienced you are, the idea is Im trying to keep it so easy that even a novice student who has never seen a grand piano before will learn something.

By the way, I know what you’re thinking! Piano is for lamos, why would I want to learn piano? Guitar is where it’s at! The only people who play piano are old fogies who are dead like Beethoven, Bach, and other crappy old composers.

But there are actually tons of cool bands that play piano! Here are just a few: John Mayer, Coldplay, Elton John, The Fray, Aliscia Keys, The Beatles, The Fray, Gavin Degraw, Radiohead, Muse and Eminem!

not at all. it should be pretty easy to read the music but using to hand to play might be tough at first but they have ways of getting used to it. yeah. if u feel comfortable teaching it to urself go ahead, i neededd leasons to play sax, basson, violin and piano, but i taught guitar, ukulele, harmonica and autoharp to myself but anyways hope i helped a little bit

You should start on the instrument you’re interested in because that will keep you motivated to keep practicing until you’re successful. If that’s guitar, then start with that. There is absolutely no reason to start with piano; I disagree with your dad.
