My boyfriend wants to learn piano, would it be useful for him to learn on keyboard first?
Filed under: how to learn piano

I can’t really afford a piano and we haven’t got any space for it just now.

So I’m wanting to get him a keyboard at Christmas, but I dunno if it’s suitable. Is it good for him to learn on keyboard or would it be too different from learning piano?

If you are on a budget, it is a good idea to start on a keyboard as they are much cheaper!

Get minimum 5 Octaves (61 keys); "Piano-sized Keys" and touch-sensitive/velocity-sensitive. You can pick up something for $200 or £100.

What is the best exercise or technique for learning to play with both hands at a time on the Piano?

I’m on my fifth year playing Violin and I’ve been trying to learn Piano as a second instrument. The transition from one instrument to another has been rather difficult with me. The bass clef was relatively easy to learn as well as each hand separately, but I’ve been having trouble playing both hands together at the same time. What is the best exercise or technique for learning to play with both hands at a time?

Scales scales and scales. Did I mention scales? Scales are magical in helping any instrumentalist become accomplished. However, along w/playing the scales, you need to start slowly and evenly. In order to accomplish this, you need to play along w/a metronome. Slowly and evenly, and perfect at first before you start to increase the speed. Speed will come once your brain and fingers start to work together.

Along w/scales, learn your chords, all the intervals, and arpeggios. Very cliché but believe me, it is the only way to get anywhere in music. Everything you play is going to be based on some type of major or minor scale. It is also the best way to get your fingers, hands and brain in sync. Happy scales to you!!!!

I want to learn to play piano. Where should i start?

I’m really pumped to start learning the piano but i don’t know where to go. Can someone help me out?

Call the music stores and ask if they give lessons or can recommend someone who can. Also try your local school or college… often the music teachers moonlight and teach after school and evenings.
